Using an FTP Client
Chapter 3-3-2 ROCKCI
DIY Virtual Server Features Using
an FTP Client
Setting up your FTP Client To connect to your ROCKCI
DIY Virtual Server
Most FTP clients have a place to configure sites you wish to FTP to.
The following shows you the settings to when configuring your FTP client
program to transfer files to your Virtual Server:
Use this host address: www.Yourname.com
Use this User ID: emailed with activation
Use this password: emailed with activation
Logging in (The connect button in most FTP clients)
Using your FTP program, Select The site you configured and Log in (connect)
to your Virtual Server. You should automatically be switched to your
user directory by the FTP program.
Your index.html file
The first directory you see is your user root directory. In order for
your home page to load when a WWW user types http://www.YourName.com,
you must have a file called index.html, index.htm, or index.shtml
(for server side includes) in this directory. Note that we have installed
a customized Homepage in your account index.html. Use this as an
example to set up your Homepage. Your FTP program will permit you to make
sub directories off your user directory (such as /images, /maps, etc) to
better organize your account.
User Permissions
Your account has "permissions" to access all files and directories
contained in or
below your home directory (with the exception of your logs directory
and a few system files). The directory structures above your home
directory, contain system
files and the files of other users of the system. neighbor's files.
Note: Please keep careful track
of your disk space usage. You are responsible for staying below the limit
of your specific plan. If this limit is exceeded you will be billed for
the additional space.
